Sa Bom Nim Lockwood started training in 1986 at the age of 7 under Sa Bom Nim Russ Hanke in Wyandotte, MI. Sa Bom Nim Lockwood has been teaching for over 20 years. Additionally, he has been a recognized competitor on a regional, national and international level.  In 2000, Master Lockwood participated in the Ko Dan Ja Shim Sa, the 8 Day testing required for the rank of Sa Dan (4th Degree, Master Ranking).  This was one of the pinnacles of his training (Continued Below).

 

 

Master Ken Swaffar

Master Swaffar began training in 1991 at the age of five, under the instruction of Sa Bom Nim Russ Hanke in Wyandotte, Michigan.  Master Swaffar's training has continued for over 19 years because he believes in the "Action Philosophy" of Soo Bahk Do;  "Action and Involvement is needed to reach our full potential in order to reach our goals."  Master Swaffar attended the Ko Dan Ja Shim Sa in November of 2010.  After climbing the ranks over the years, this 8 day test is a requirement to achieve the 4th Degree Master Ranking of Sa Dan;  the summit he has strived for in his training thus far.  He was promoted to Sa Dan (4th Degree) in March of 2011.  Master Swaffar has been teaching for several years and is dedicated to Soo Bahk Do and committed to the effort of spreading the philosophy and teachings to others in order to help them realize their full potential. 

 

Jo Kyo Nim Tim Majors

Jo Kyo Nim Majors started training in 2002 under the guidance of Sa Bom Nim Josh Lockwood in Lincoln Park, MI. Jo Kyo Nim Majors has been teaching Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan for over 4 years. He is a very active and recognized practitioner/competitor on a regional and national level.  Jo Kyo Nim Majors has been fortunate to have had the opportunity to train directly under Kwan Jang Nim H.C. Hwang on numerous occasions.  He was promoted to Cho Dan (1st Degree) in 2006 and through continued dedication to the Art achieved E Dan (2nd Degree) in 2008.  He is determined to continue the development of his knowledge in the Art and motivated to strengthen the foundation of Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan in the Downriver area. 


Sa Bom Nim Josh Lockwood: (continued)

After being promoted to Sa Dan in 2000 he has volunteered to attend the Ko Dan Ja Shim Sa as a visitor to support the candidates and the senior members conducting the testing. He has attended every Ko Dan Ja since 2000 to further his knowledge and bring back the latest teachings from the Kwan Jang Nim and Technical Advisory Committee. In 2005, he was promoted to 0 Dan (5th Degree) and achieved the Master level certified instructor title of Sa Bom Nim. In August of 2005, he was appointed as Regional Examiner for Region 5 (MI, IN, IL, OH). This position is held to maintain the technical standards passed down from the Kwan Jang Nim and Technical Advisory Committee.  In hopes of further supporting the U.S. Federation and Art, Sa Bom Nim Lockwood was involved in the development of a 501c(3) Non-Profit entity to work in harmony with the Federation.  The U.S. Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan Foundation, Inc. was established on October 5, 2010, and he was selected as the Chairman of the Foundation's Board of Directors.  In March of 2011, he was promoted to Yuk Dan (6th Degree).  On June 1, 2011, Sa Bom Nim Lockwood was appointed by the Kwan Jang Nim to the Neh Gung Bu of the Technical Advisory Committee.  His travels have included events all over the United States, Europe and Korea. He looks to continue his travels especially on the international level to help take action in our Mission 2000 goals of Improved Human Relations through our art of Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan.

Timeline:

  • 1986: Began Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan training under Russ Hanke Sa Bom Nim

  • 1988: Attended his first National Championships (West Point, NY)

  • 1988: Became an assistant instructor at Sa Bom Nim Hanke’s Studio

  • 1989: First visit to Federation Headquarters

  • 1990: Promoted to Cho Dan (1st Degree, has not missed a Region Dan Testing since)

  • 1991: Attended Yuk Ro Hyung clinic conducted by Kwan Jang Nim H.C. Hwang

  • 1992: Attended the 1st Annual Region 5 Championships (has attended all but one {1993} since)

  • 1992: Promoted to Ee Dan (2nd Degree)

  • 1994: Attended National Championships in San Diego, CA (has not missed one since)

  • 1994: Attended the International Goodwill Competition held in Switzerland where he was a member of the U.S. Team

  • 1994: Officially took over as the main instructor at Sa Bom Nim Hanke’s studio

  • 1995: Attended the 50th Anniversary of the Moo Duk Kwan in Seoul, Korea

  • 1995: Promoted to Sam Dan (3rd Degree)

  • 1997: Participated in the T.A.C. demonstrations with Sa Bom Nim Hanke at the National Championships in Cherry Hill, NJ

  • 1998: Attended National Summer Camp in New York (introduction of Chil Sung Yuk Ro Hyung)

  • 2000: Attended the Ko Dan Ja Shim Sa for the first time in Carbondale, Colorado
